COURSE I

THE TRANS-MEDITERRANEAN SPACE AND THE ISLAMIC WORLD:
“INTEGRATION IN THE SCHOOL CONTEXT”

Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan

COURSE II

L’ESPACE TRANS-MÉDITERRANÉEN ET LE MONDE ISLAMIQUE:
“INTEGRATION IN PUBLIC SPACES”

University of Rome TRE – OCI University

GOALS

The higher education course aims to focus on the religious facts and challenges of the modern world, with particular attention to everyday practices in public spaces such as schools. The aim is to provide the tools to analyze and understand cultural, religious, pedagogical and didactic aspects and to set up intercultural educational paths, in particular related to religious diversity and educational contexts that allow, on the one hand, the inclusion of foreign students and, on the other hand, the diffusion of welcoming attitudes among Italians, considering also the cognitive and psychophysical difficulties that may be present in foreign students with special educational needs, which can be an additional risk factor for marginalization and social exclusion.

Particular attention will be paid to Islam, its stereotypes, its representations and its forms of communication, in order to analyze how the Islamic religion is lived in the school space, also considering the risks of violent radicalization generated by exclusion and marginalization in the school context and in the class group. A deep and critical knowledge of this religion is useful to make the school context an environment of knowledge and relationships with students and families.
